While the world and some circumstances can be especially difficult, I believe that we all have tremendous capacity to live fulfilling, holistic, and meaningful lives.

I’ve been interested in this work, and generally supporting people’s healing, throughout my whole life.  Psychotherapy - the intentional and directional healing process between two humans with the same clinical goal - is a profound mechanism for this change.

Specialities:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Trauma
  • Men’s Issues
  • Autism
  • LGBT and queer issues

My focus on systems and personal identity led to a therapeutic specialization in working with LGBT and queer people as well as with intersections of LGBT and racial identities.  I offer therapy in both Spanish and English.

The relationship between myself and clients is the catalyst for change, empowerment, and personal exploration.  Warmth, empathy, and unconditional positive regard define my approach, which is largely based on person-centered theory.  I believe in mutual respect and balancing power within the therapeutic relationship. This work emphasizes strengths and offers practical solutions and long-term behavioral changes. I also draw from systems-based theories and community resources. As a result, I have grown to appreciate and recognize the importance of culture, individuality and social pressures on a person’s wellbeing.

I also have a strong interest and expertise in working with children, adolescents and their families.  I am trained in several play therapies including TheraPlay and Therapeutically Applied Tabletop Roleplaying Games (TT-RPG’s). This is a specialized form of treatment that emphasizes engagement, structure, connection and communication skills through “Geek” culture.

I am completing my doctorate in Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, which included a specialized course of study in Denmark researching happiness and positive psychology.  My experience at the Gender and Sexuality Center at University of Illinois Chicago as well as my personal research deepened my interest and knowledge in this area.  I’ve been a featured expert on Touchvision and published on LGBT and queer issues in therapy.  I served on a task for the American Counseling Association on the ethical implications of working with sexual and affectional minorities and am currently a contributing author to a textbook on therapy with LGBT and queer people.
