Anna Heilbrun,

I find that, most often, people seek out a therapist due to thoughts, habits, or beliefs in their life that are making them feel, generally speaking, simply “stuck.”
Therapy, therefore, creates a space for them to collaborate with someone - their therapist - in uncovering and naming these unwanted aspects of their daily life in order to replace them with more grounded, realistic thoughts and actions. My goal for your therapeutic journey is for us to work together in helping you get “unstuck” by identifying goals and shifting your thoughts to lead a more values-driven life.

I specialize in treating children, adolescents, adults and families facing a wide range of mental health and medical concerns. In addition to my specialized background in pediatric psychology, I also have a passion for treating the AYA community (adolescents and young adults with or survivors of cancer).
I use a variety of evidence-based treatments in my practice, including CBT (cognitive-behavioral therapy), ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), family systems therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy. My approach is warm and non-judgmental, striving to create a therapeutic environment that allows for authentic and open exploration, questioning, accountability, and collaboration.
I completed my Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Virginia and pre-doctoral internship and fellowship training at the Kennedy Krieger Institute/Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the University of Chicago Medicine, respectively. In addition to my work in private practice as a clinician and supervisor, I have an appointment to the Day Rehab program at the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab (formerly the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago) - a national leader in disability treatment and research - where I specialize in recovery from traumatic brain injury, stroke, and brain tumors.
